HYDERABAD: The state government has cleared the proposal of the AP State Road Transport Corporation to introduce cargo service to tide over the financial crisis it has slipped into in the wake of employees' strike.
The corporation is likely to launch cargo operations shortly, possibly in one or two months.Transport minister Botcha Satyanaryana held a highlevel meeting on Saturday with RTC's management and gave his nod for the proposal and asked them to finalise the modalities.

Though APSRTC is considered to be the biggest public transport organisation in the country, it has incurred heavy losses to the tune of Rs 1,800 crore due to the increase in the diesel, spares and maintenance costs. The management is doing its best to improve its revenue by introducing new schemes and services such as Garuda Plus, and operating multiaxle Mercedes Benz and CNGrun buses.

RTC officials met officials of the Singareni Collieries, Krishnapatnam port and civil supplies department seeking business from them.

Vicechairman and managing director B Prasada Rao said launch of cargo service may take place in one or two months.
