New Delhi: The national Capital on Sunday braced itself for a three-day shutdown called by traders from Monday to protest the sealing drive even as the Government decided to approach the Supreme Court in a bid to put off the action set to resume on November 1.
Both the ruling Congress and the main Opposition BJP had extended support to the bandh as the traders planned to gherao the Delhi Assembly on Monday on the first day of its Winter Session.
All markets in the Capital including Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Greater Kailash and Chandi Chowk would remain closed, Confederation of All India Traders Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said.
Traders, who had called the 72-hour bandh, termed the court-ordered drive as "inhuman". The BJP had extended its full support to the agitation.
Khandelwal said the public would not be put to any inconvenience and they had exempted essential services and transport from the purview of the bandh.
With large-scale violence during September 20 traders' bandh still fresh in their minds, the Delhi Police had made elaborate arrangements to maintain law and order in the city.
The trouble spot during the September 20 agitation was Seelampur in North Delhi where five protesters were killed in police action.
The Delhi government, however, said all its schools would remain open on Monday.
