With the monsoon rains finally setting in, cravings for spicy hot street food also set in. In an effort to capture the essence of monsoon, The Park hotel has launched Dilli Dil Se, a Delhi street food festival at its restaurant, Verandah. The entrance to the restaurant has been done up to give one the feeling of the quaint Delhi streets; a brick wall background, graffiti and even movie posters of Murder 2 and the Hindi dubbed version of Transformers 3. It is also lined with live counters where the food is prepared.Speaking of the festival, executive chef Mandaar said, “To get that authentic taste, we had chefs from Delhi flown in. We collaborated with them and came up with what we feel is typical street food that is exclusive and personifies Delhi.” The passion to keep the food as Delhi as possible comes through the fact that the Delhi chefs came with their own stock of spices and ingredients. Adding to the feel, the food is served on patha-styled plates with wooden spoons. The menu includes Parathas, Roshan chacha ke chole kulcha, Ram laddoo, Moong dal ke chilla, Khasta kachori aloo ki sabji, Delhi University ke bread pakode, Rajma aur kadhi chawal, Seek kabab taka tak, Tandoori murg, besides the usual chaat dishes like Golgappa, Papdi chaat and Dahi pakode. But any menu isn’t complete without dessert, even if its street food. Gajar ka halwa, Jalebi, Shahi tukda, Falooda and Lassi feature in the sweet section. So if eating Delhi chaat while old hindi melodies play in the background to pouring rain and a lake view is your ideal evening, The Park hopes to entice you to their festival which is on till July 24, from 4 pm to 11 pm. And as you walk out, blissfully fed, don’t forget to get yourself a custom made paan from the panwadis.
