New Delhi: The national capital has been put on high alert ahead of Republic Day, more so because this time the chief guests are the top leaders of 10 Southeast Asian countries.
More than 1000 cameras have been installed in and around Lutyens' Delhi. Several paramilitary and Army companies have also been deployed to provide security.
Joint Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhary said, “An elaborate arrangement has been made. We keep receiving intelligence inputs on the basis of which we coordinate with other security agencies and make foolproof arrangements. We ensure that the event will go peacefully.”
Rajpath and the entire route from which the parade will cross has been covered with the CCTVs. A large number of CCTVs have been installed in and around Rajpath, Janpath road, Vijay Chowk and other areas.
According to Delhi Police, there are three control rooms that have been set up especially for the Republic Day purpose. Through these control rooms the surveillance is being done.
Shiv Charan, a Delhi Police official in-charge of one of the control rooms, told CNN-News18, “More than 1000 CCTVs have been installed. This time the CCTV cameras used by Delhi Police are IPMega Pixels. These cameras provide highly detailed images of the object. It also has a high zooming capability which ensures a closer view of the area or a person.”
Maximum cameras installed have 30x zoom which means the police can zoom in to three kilometres with a clear image of the area or the object.
Apart from having a technical surveillance, the security agencies are also working on the local inputs and intelligence inputs. Just a week before Republic Day, the Delhi Police’s Special Cell arrested one of India’s most wanted terrorist, Abdul Subhan Qureshi.
Delhi Police officials also said that the rooftops in central Delhi, along the route of Republic Day parade, has been sanitised. Every rooftop will have a commando deployed.
