Noting that constant speculation about a change of guard in Uttarakhand had brought development activities to a halt, the main opposition BJP on Tuesday asked the Bahuguna government to either address the problems faced by people in the calamity-hit state or step down.
"Ever since the Congress has formed the government in the state, we have been hearing speculation about the fate of the Chief Minister. This has led to considerable instability in the state where all development work has come to a halt with Congress leaders vying with each other to grab the CM's chair," Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Bhatt said.
"The BJP demands that either the party in power should deliver or step down in the larger interest of the people of the state still smarting under the effects of a huge natural calamity," he said.
Asking the Central leadership of the Congress to take a final call on the matter, Bhatt said the atmosphere of political uncertainty in Uttarkahand must end so that those in power can address the problems facing the people.
