BANGALORE: Opposition leader in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Udayshankar has alleged that as many as 68 engineers, who are on deputation at Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), still continue in the their posts in the Palike.
Speaking to reporters, he charged that these engineers are lobbying to continue in the same posts.Udayshankar said, according to Karnataka Civil Service Rules (KSCR), the BBMP can get staff from other government departments on deputation service. However, the service of such staff should not exceed three years.

"When the government servants serve on deputation for three years, they should ordinarily be repatriated to their parent department and should serve that department for at least two years before their case for further deputation is considered," Udayshankar said.

These engineers are on deputation from various department including HUDCO, KPTCL, BWSSB and others.

Burden on BBMP

According to him, BBMP is paying around `1.74 crore more per annum.

Even the Standing Committee on Administrative Reforms had decided to repatriate these engineers in their June 13, 2011 meeting.

He warned of raising the issue in the Council meeting if they are allowed to continue in the Palike.
