KOLLAM: Director General of Police Jacob Punnoose has recommended to the State Government to suspend two Deputy SPs involved in the ‘liquor party’ held at the Government Guest House, Ashramam, in October, 2009. The development bears significance following the arrest and remand of Deputy SP Santhosh Nair in the Unnithan murder attempt case. Another officer is under a cloud of suspicion in the case. As the disciplinary action has been recommended against Deputy SP-level officers, it is the Home department to take a decision on the issue. There were reports that the Government is yet to take decision on the recommendations. Meanwhile, B Krishnakumar, ACP, Cantonment, Thiruvananthapuram, has been transferred as ACP, Kollam. Krishna Kumar was in the lime light following his earnest effort on booking the culprits in the PSC exam mobile copying case. Around 28 accused were arrested and remanded for a long period. But when he was transferred to Thiruvananthapuram, all of the accused in the mobile copying case managed to secure bail. Meanwhile, a controversy over forwarding Container Santhosh’s application for licence to possess revolver has been raked up by certain quarters. The Special Branch Wing had raised this issue apparently to block Krishnakumar’s transfer back to Kollam. But it has been pointed out that then SP Harshitha Attalloori and Deputy SP Krishnakumar forwarded the report of the CI on the application for licence by 12 applicants. The arrest of one of the accused in the mobile copying incident had irked another Deputy SP, now in charge of the Special Branch, who had allegedly asked the investigation officer to clear his relative’s name. But the accused, also a relative of a CPI MLA from the district could not get his name cleared as the Home Department was adamant on booking all the accused. The Police officers’ quotation-sand mafia nexus and the rivalry between the police officers have largely damaged the credibility of the police force.
