THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  A Sampath MP has urged banks to extend education loans to all students who are admitted to various professional courses through common entrance process. Inaugurating the district-level banking review meeting here on Monday, he also requested the banks to formulate schemes to finance biogas plants and other waste disposal methods for solving the problem of waste disposal in the city.   Shashi Tharoor MP, who spoke on the occasion, asked the banks to extend more loans to women beneficiaries for self-employment ventures. He also sought adequate loans for those who go for higher education abroad, to promote the trend. Tharoor also released the annual credit plan report by handing over a copy to District Collector K N Satheesh, who presided over the function. Indira Padmini, Chief Regional Manager, IOB and Convenor, Lead Bank, presented the introductory address.   Reserve Bank of India assistant general manager P Thomas and District  Development Officer, NABAR K T Thrivikraman reviewed the performance of the banks.  Total Bank Deposits in the district stood at Rs 32,903 crore and   advances Rs 21,969 crore.  The Credit Deposit Ratio for the district is 67 per cent.  Under the education loan scheme, banks have distributed Rs 976 crore as on September 30, 2011. Under Micro, Small and medium Enterprises (MSME) of the priority sector, bank loan outstanding is Rs 2,261 crore.  Financial institutions in the district disbursed Rs 2,924 cr to the three major sectors under the priority sector against the target of Rs 5,393 cr in 2011-12.
