PUDUCHERRY: The local unit of the DMK has urged the government to take all necessary steps to set up a separate education board for the Union Territory of Puducherry.A resolution to this effect was adopted at the executive committee meeting, held under the chairmanship of its convenor R V Janakiraman.The party also adopted resolutions seeking 50 per cent seats in self-financing medical and engineering colleges under CENTAC, as well as remission of fee for admission to these college at the CENTAC office. Further, the party urged the government to ensure that admissions to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute takes place this year. Through another resolution, the party demanded that the government bring all the textile mills in the Union Territory under the Puducherry Textile Corporation and modernise it as well. Besides, the government should utilise the mills in order to produce uniforms for school students, linen needed by hospitals and all other textile products required by the UT.
