CHENNAI: Congress leader EVKS Elangovan took a hardline on the issue of clemency for the three men who planned the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. Elangovan rejected the calls for clemency and said the three convicts facing death penalty should be lynched.“We should find them and even if they were found in prison, people should break it to lynch them,” said the Congress leader. “Since our beloved and visionary leader Rajiv Gandhi, who was responsible for introducing telecommunication revolution in the country, was assassinated in the Tamil land, people living in the state should lynch those three convicts for killing Rajiv Gandhi.”Ridiculing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for somersaulting on the issue, Elangovan said, “Though we have differences of opinion on Jayalalithaa’s government, nobody knows what forced her to change her stand on the issue in just 24 hours.”“Congress party is ready to congratulate you, provided you rectify the fault of seeking commutation of death penalty for the three convicts,” the Congress leader said.
