New Delhi: Different versions of the spat between the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials and the Kolkata Knight Riders team owner Shah Rukh Khan are being reported with actor Chunkey Pandey's wife Bhavana saying that her daughter was one of the children the superstar was protecting at the Wankhede Stadium.
"She was there and witnessed the whole thing," Bhavana tweeted, responding to a Twitter user's query on the incident. "Saying that SRK was drunk and abusive is completely false.. All he did was protect and defend the kids who were there including my daughter," she said.
Several version of the ugly row, which led to a five-year ban by the MCA on Khan, are doing the rounds, one of which is that it may have been triggered off by the Bollywood superstar's refusal to oblige guests of some the MCA's office bearers, according to the tabloid newspaper Mid-day.
But Bollywood celebrities, including director of the superhit film Kahaani, Sujoy Ghosh, have strongly backed Khan. According to a Mid-Day source, the MCA officebearers were hurt that Shah Rukh didn't sign autographs or pose for pictures with some of their guests. The online portal rediff.com quoted a 14-year-old eyewitness as saying that Khan lost his cool when the guards starting manhandling his daughter Suhana.
The teen claimed that "these MCA members, who had an issue with the children, were drunk and upset because the Mumbai Indians had lost a decisive game to Shah Rukh's Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.
Sukhminder Lamba, the boy's father, told Rediff.com, "It is amazing to see the media devour Shah Rukh Kan for protecting the children. I am sure at some point in time every parent has gone through a similar situation and has been provoked and reacted to a greater degree. The boys were pushed around by the security men even though they were making their way back quietly."
