Fake Samsung Galaxy phones seized, 6 held

CB-CID sleuths raided six mobile phone shops on Ritchie Street and seized fake mobile phones, packaging materials, hologram stickers and MRP stickers worth Rs 14 lakh, here on Wednesday. Six persons have been arrested in this connection.

The action followed a complaint from R Satheesh Kumar, general manager, EIPR, authorised by Samsung India Ltd., to take legal action against Shree Shanthi Mobiles, Raj Mobiles, SimLim Electronics Mobile World, Olive Electronics, Pooja Electronics,  and Nice Mobiles, all operating from Ritchie Street, for selling duplicate Samsung mobile phones imported from China, cheating the public and causing loss to the company. Acting on the complaint, a special team led by CB-CID Inspector Rajasekaran carried out raids at these shops.

During the raid, duplicate Samsung mobiles and packaging materials, hologram stickers and MRP stickers worth Rs 14 lakh were seized.

Over 375 mobile phones and accessories were confiscated. Sources said that the firmware of Samsung had been duplicated and the duplicate phones had all features available in the original phone.

These mobiles will be imported from China without any brand name and fabricated here into make-belief Samsung mobiles. The phones were neatly packed and sold in these shops.

Six persons — Raju, (24), Narendar, (21), Raffiq, (32), Firosekhan, (19), Dawulad Singh, (20) and Haneefa (19) — were arrested in this connection and remanded in  judicial custody.
