Ahmedabad: A prayer meeting was organised to mark 11 years of the encounter of Sadiq Jamal, who was allegedly on a mission to kill Narendra Modi.
A large number of people took part in the prayer meeting where verses from holy books were read out. Shabbir Jamal, Sadiq's brother says that although eight persons have been charge sheeted by the CBI, it has not properly investigated this case.
He demanded that all those who were involved in the conspiracy to kill his brother should also be arrested. Sadiq Jamal was killed on the outskirts of Ahmedabad city in January 2003 by a team of Ahmedabad Crime Branch police officers led by DG Vanzara, who is now in jail. The police had claimed Sadiq was on a mission to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Shabbir Jamal, Sadiq's brother said, "There are others who are still scot -free. They may be policemen or politicians. Why are they not being arrested? Why are we still waiting for justice?"
Amrish Patel, Convener of an NGO Jansangharsh Manch said that the encounter was fake and aimed at dividing Hindu-Muslims. He said, "We have always maintained that the encounter was an attempt to divide communities in Gujarat on the basis of religion. The CBI is not probing this angle at all. We demand that this also be investigated by the CBI."
