HALLIGUDI (Gadag): ‘Go Back Posco,’ farmers of Mundaragi taluk have been murmuring and have decided to send this message to the state government which is in the process of acquiring fertile land for the Posco steel plant at Halligudi. Hundreds of farmers have decided to go to the Dharwad Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board office on bullock carts on July 4.Farmers of around eight villages are worried about their future as the KIADB has been issuing notices for acquiring their fertile land.Streets and corners of the village have become a dais for discussion. They were worried as the KIADB has been issued notices for the second time.Ningajja Nalkurki of Halligudi village told Express that since two months no family member has been able to eat in peace. This is the situation in every family in the village, he added.KIADB has called 536 farmers to the Dharwad special land acquisition office to hear the objections filed by more than 350 farmers. Special land acquisition officer Mahantesh Beelagi will hold a meeting with the farmers from July 4 to 7. “We have decided to go to the KIADB Dharwad office in bullock carts and tractors. We will sacrifice our lives in front of the office,” he added.The forum has created awareness in the taluk, on how the steel company would affect their lives. The forum’s initiative seems to have irked the government which is in a hurry to acquire land for Posco.
