The fate of Karnataka's common entrance test for medical and engineering, COMED-K, is likely to be decided on Monday as the Supreme Court is slated to take up a plea on whether the test should be conducted.
The decision of the Supreme Court to allow the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for medical courses had created confusion about the validity of COMED-K. NEET exams were held on May 1 as per the apex court order.
Karnataka government had approached the Supreme Court requesting it not to cancel its own entrance exams until a decision on NEET is taken.
Meanwhile, COMED-K CEO AS Srikanth said that since the apex court had not asked for the examination to be not conducted. As of now, COMED-K is scheduled to be held on May 8.
"Supreme Court has not asked for COMEDK to be not conducted, right now we are going to conduct it on May 8. All the admit cards have been uploaded, people are printing it, our review petition and state's review petition is in the court," he said.
"If the Supreme Court puts a stay, we will not conduct (the examination)," he added.
Centre has also contended that conducting NEET in English medium would pose difficulties to students from regional language medium.
