HYDERABAD: Cilarapu Damodar Raja Narasimha, a Dalit of Madiga community, was born on December 5, 1958 to Raja Narasimha and Janabai in Medak district. An engineer by profession, he dreamt of becoming a bureacrat and district collector. He married Padmini and has a daughter.His father Raja Narasimha was a three-time Congress MLA from the Andole constituency in 1967, 1972 and 1978 consecutively. The young Narasimha entered into active politics after the death of his father.He got elected for the first time to the Assembly from Andhol (SC) constituency in 1989. After losing three subsequent elections in 1994, 1998 (bypoll) and 1999, he won again in 2004 and 2009. In 1994 he lost to to his nearest TDP candidate M Rajaiah, and in 199 to TDP candidate and actor P Babu Mohan.He had served as primary education minister in the YS Rajasekhara Reddy cabinet between 2004 and 2009. After the 2009 elections, he became minister for marketing and warehousing in the YSR cabinet and continued in the same post even in the cabinet headed by former chief minister K Rosaiah. When Kiran Kumar Reddy succeeded Rosaiah as chief minister in November last, Narasimha was made minister for higher education and technical education.Known for his calm disposition, he was taken on the cabinet sub-committee on employees’ issues. He played a key role in convincing the agitating Telangana employees to withdraw their “noncooperation movement”.
