A female doctor at a government hospital in Sundargarh, Odisha, has accused District Medical Officer (DMO)-cum-Superintendent Prakash Chandra Bal of sexual harassment.
According to a report by The Times of India, sources said that the woman, a dentist, has been working at Sundergarh District Headquarter Hospital for the past four years.
In her police complaint filed on Saturday night, the 28-year-old female doctor stated that Bal, 64, and also a surgeon, used to call her to his chamber where he would subject her to inappropriate touching. When she voiced her objections, he allegedly resorted to threats.
Additionally, she detailed an incident where the doctor intruded into the restroom while she was present, engaging in misconduct after shutting the door. The complainant further accused the doctor of similar inappropriate behaviour towards other female doctors and nurses within the hospital.
In response to the accusations, DMO-cum-superintendent Bal stated, “The allegations levelled against me are false and baseless.”
On Sunday, the police took action by registering a case against Bal for allegedly outraging the modesty of the woman, using obscene language, and issuing threats. An investigation into the matter has been initiated.
Sub-Inspector Dolamani Naik of Sundargarh Town Police station said, “Based on the woman’s FIR, we have registered a case and are investigating it.”
