Pioneer of Malayalam films gets another feather in his cap.

Kochi: Renowned film makers Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Prof. John Sankaramangalam will be honoured at a film festival to be held from October 28 at Changanassery, Kerala.

A cash prize of Rs 50,000, A citation and A plaque will be presented to Adoor on the opening day of the festival.

The jury chairman KG George said the festival is being jointly held by St. Joseph College of Communication (SJCC) and the National Film Archives of India.

Adoor's first film Swayamvaram (1972) pioneered the new wave cinema movement in Kerala.

Apart from his films, Adoor's major contribution towards introducing a new cinema culture in Kerala was the constitution of the first Film Society in Kerala, 'Chalachitra'.

Former Pune Film Institute director and filmmaker John Sankaramangalam has been selected for the first SJCC media award.

Over 30 films, including world classics and popular Indian movies, will be screened at the festival, which will conclude on November 1.

A competition section for campus documentaries and animation movies would also be held, with Rs 1,00,000 as prize money, the organisers said.
