After Bhoot, if there is one film which scares the hell out of you, in the big list of Ram Gopal Varma's horror films, is Phoonk 2. There are chances you shut your eyes and hold the person sitting next to you instead of the chair.
Jokes apart, Phoonk 2 is phenomenally scary. Milind Gadagkar's role in Phoonk 1 was limited to being a writer. But this time around he has taken the concept of 'horror' to an entirely new level as a director in Phoonk 2. The way he seamlessly merges the supernatural elements in the lives of living beings is worth a praise.
Coming to the plot we see Rajiv (Sudeep) moving into a new sea-facing bungalow with this wife Aarti (Amruta Khanvilkar) and his two kids Raksha (Ahsaas Channa) and Rohan. Rajiv intends to make a fresh start and forget his past. He looks forward to spend quality time with his family in the new house.
Little did he know that his past would keep haunting him and make his life miserable once again. One fine day Sudip's kids find a doll in the woods and bring it home. Thus enters Madhu (Ashwini Kalsekar) in their lives. The kids are the first one to identify that there is something wrong with doll. Then Aarti complains about hearing voices in the house. Rajiv tries really hard to convince himself that these incidents are just figments of their imagination. But very soon he figures out who exactly is bothering them and why. Telling too much at this point would be giving out the storyline.
Ram Gopal Varma's love for horror films dates back to Raat (1992) which was loved by everyone. Then it was Bhoot (2003), that set the ball rolling again. RGV went on to make films like Darna zaroori Hai, Darna Mana Hai and Agyaat which got mixed reactions from audiences.
RGV, on many occasions in the past attempted to scare people using sound effects as an effective means, but in Phoonk 2, he has actually given a lot of attention to visuals as well that makes it even more interesting.
The best part about the film is the storyline that builds into a perfect climax. RGV and Milind have played the cards well here and you can feel the chills running down your spine till the last scene.
Sudeep plays his part very well and perfectly portrays a character of a helpless father who can do nothing but watch the world crash in front of his eyes. Amruta Khanvilkar is brilliant. Neeru Singh looks pretty and fills in for what the masses need - sometimes with a kiss and the rest with her skimpy clothes. Amit Sadh plays okay in his own space.
Overall, Phoonk 2 won't disappoint the viewers who have a penchant for horror flicks. It is certainly not meant for those who are weak-hearted.
Verdict: Good show.
