Thiruvananthapuram/New Delhi: In the first case of swine flu in Kerala, a woman doctor and her son tested positive on Sunday and they were among seven new cases taking the number of those affected by the virus in the country to 98.
Two cases were reported from Kochi in Kerala and one each from Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Kolkata and Mumbai, a health ministry release said in New Delhi. Three children were among the new cases.
Health Department sources in Thiruvananthapuram said a third case was reported in Kerala when a woman who reached Karippur Airport in Kozhikode from Dubai on June 24 tested positive. She had been admitted to Kozhikode Government Beach hospital, sources said.
A 53-year-old woman--a doctor in UK--and her 24-year-old son who arrived at the Nedumbassery Airport in Kochi on June 24 from Britain tested positive, Health Department sources said in Thiruvananthapuram.
Out of the seven fresh cases, in two cases the disease was transmitted from a relative, who had earlier tested positive for the virus.
A 12-year-old girl from Gurgaon found suffering from the disease is the sister of a person who tested positive two days back while a 45-year-old woman from Mumbai tested positive two days after her child was faund to be having the virus.
In Kolkata, a five-and-a-half-year old girl, who arrived in the city from Bangkok on June 26, tested positive.
In Hyderabad, a 10-year-old boy, who came from USA transiting Frankfurt and Mumbai on June 25, tested positive in yet another case in the city.
