THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Like many boys of their age, Praveen, Vipin and Jishnu had talked about cinema from their school days. Their little group grew in size as they went to college and so did their love for cinema. While in college, they formed ‘Cinemagic’, a group purely dedicated to films and even experimented with a short film. Now out of college, the group has come up with their second short film which heralds a new episode in their lives. The short film, ‘Iniyumoru Mazhayayi...’ is to be premiered at Kairali Theatre on Sunday Cinemagic’s first attempt was ‘Twist’, released in 2009. “That was shot with a video camera and had many shortcomings. But with this one, we have tried our best to be more professional, be it the script, editing or directing,” says Praveen Mohan, who is the associate director of the film. Jishnu Sreekantan has directed the movie. The film revolves around a young man who comes across love and death at two different stages in his life in two different ways. It talks about the way in which the person identifies with his circumstances and tries to deal with it. The 30-minute film has chosen an emotionally-rich content and has tried to portray it in a no-nonsense manner. ‘Twist’ had won accolades in a film festival hosted by a website. “Unlike our first film, we now have more promotion scope with Facebook and other social networks. We hope to carry the film to more avenues this time,” Vipin says. The group has invited many renowned filmmakers to the premiere, without holding any inaugural ceremony. “We want them to see our film and express their opinion,” Praveen says. The premiere is to be held at Kairali theatre on Sunday at 9.30 am. Cinemagic can be contacted at 9496811940.
