Ranchi: A special CBI court hearing fodder scam cases has directed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav to personally appear before the court on Friday in Ranchi.

Earlier the counsel of Lalu applied for his exemption from personal appearance but the court rejected it. Though the court allowed former chief minister Jagannath Mishra, one of the accused in fodder scam cases along with Lalu, to be represented by his lawyer on health grounds.

After rejection of application, Lalu Yadav took a flight and reached Ranchi as the court proceedings are scheduled for Friday morning.

The court will hear case no RC 64A/96 of the fodder scam which is related to illegal withdrawal of Rs 95 lakh from Deogarh treasury.

Special CBI judge Shivpal Singh on June 9 had directed Lalu Yadav to face charges under Prevention of Corruption Act (13D), IPC (120-B) and Section 420.

The Special CBI court resumed hearing after the Supreme Court accepted the CBI plea to continue criminal conspiracy charges against Lalu Prasad Yadav in fodder scam cases.

Earlier, the Jharkhand High Court had dropped the charges of criminal conspiracy against Lalu. The HC had ruled citing the law on double jeopardy that once a person has been convicted or acquitted, he cannot be tried for the same offence again.

But the SC quashed this decision and allowed the CBI to pursue cases of criminal conspiracy against the accused in all four fodder scam cases separately.
