JAJPUR: Freedom fighter Brundaban Tripathy (93) passed away at Balipada on Sunday. Tripathy, who was president of Jajpur district freedom fighters’ association, died of cardiac arrest during a rally at his village.Sources said the rally was being taken out from Gajendrapur to Thakarbada by Tripathy and other freedom fighters to commemorate their arrest during the Quit India Movement in 1942.Though Tripathy was rushed to the public health centre at Gajendrapur, he was declared brought dead.Seven persons, including one Jagannath Mandhata of Gajendrapur village, were jailed on October 30 in 1942 as they participated in the Quit India Movement.Jagannath Mandhata Smruti Sansad was formed and every year the freedom fighters of the district observe the anniversary by taking out a rally and holding a memorial meeting.In Sunday’s rally, State freedom fighters’ association president Purushottam Nayak, BJD Rajya Sabha member Baishnab Charan Parida, NCP MLA Amar Satpathy and about 30 Tyagis participated.
