New Delhi: Indian audiences are going to taste different flavours at the silver screen this week as each of the three films have different themes. The first film to hit the screens on April 19 is 'The Croods'.
'The Croods', latest 3D adventure offering from Fox and DreamWorks, will hit Indian screens April 19. The movie follows the world's first modern family through the journey of a lifetime.
'The Croods' has characters voiced by the likes of Nicolas Cage (father 'Grug'), Emma Stone (daughter 'Eep') and Ryan Reynolds ('Guy').
It starts with the family's 'first' trip, after their home, a cave, is destroyed. The story then follows the discoveries of an incredible new world by the Croods with fantastic creatures, and a future beyond what they imagined.
The discoveries provide many 'firsts' in their life - first family trip, first fire and shoes, first pet, first joke, first cell (shell) phone, and even the first mid-life crisis.
Family is a core factor in the movie, just as it is in the Indian culture.
"The physical comedy was always there in the film's development. But we came to realise that once you strip away all the stuff in our modern lives - jobs, cars, responsibilities - you drill down to what really matters, and that's family and friends," Chris Sanders, writer-director of the movie, said in a statement.
Director Malcolm D Lee's 'Scary Movie 5' is also rekeasing this week. The film stars Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan in pivotal roles. Lohan speaks about her character in an interview with IANS, "It was great fun. I basically play myself in the movie and star alongside Charlie Sheen. It was great working with him and we really bonded."
She also talked about co-actor Charlie Sheen, "It was great getting to know him and sharing screen space with him. I also filmed 'Anger Management' and was grateful for the opportunity. I just had such a wonderful day on the sets of 'Anger Management' with Charlie Sheen and the entire crew!"
The movie is set to be a complete reboot of the franchise, which originally starred Anna Faris and has grossed over $800 million worldwide.
The story in 'Scary Movie 5' involves the dance world, with a snooty, aloof, imperious, and oversexed French director of a dance company putting on a huge production.
Can lightning strike twice for 'Twilight Saga' author Stephenie Meyer? Meyer trades vampires for alien beings in her latest book-to-film endeavor, 'The Host,' opening in Indian theatres on April 19.
Film distributor Open Road hopes the film will attract millions of 'Twilight' fans and be the first of a new franchise, but Meyer says she Is not trying to emulate the success that took her from unknown to one of the world's best-selling young adult authors.
"I'm not trying to have another 'Twilight' phenomenon, so for me there's not a lot of pressure," Meyer, 39, told Reuters.
Like the 'Twilight' series about a romance between a human, a vampire and a werewolf that took more than $3.3 billion at the global box office, 'The Host' is also a love triangle with a female at the center. But that's where the similarities end.
'The Host' is a futuristic apocalyptic romance about alien souls who invade and take over the human race. But the story takes place mostly in the imagination of the lead character, giving Meyer some initial doubts about how the book would translate to the big screen.
"I didn't think you could film it, Meyer said. "The whole thing happens inside one person's head. I didn't think it could be visual. It wasn't until director Andrew Niccol got involved. He is the most visual person and laid it all out for me. Then it was like, oh, okay."
'The Host' stars Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, 18, as stubborn and determined Melanie Stryder, whose body is taken over by an alien named Wanda who wants to do good in the body in which she was placed.
Now, the audience will decide which out of the three films is going to sustain at the box office. (With inputs from IANS and Reuters)
