THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When ‘Connie’ the crocodile, ‘Tom’ the turtle and ‘Peter’ the panda teach the values of cooperation and friendship along with knowledge of numbers, colours and shapes to tiny tots in Europe, there would be a Kerala touch to it. The cartoon characters, all part of the educational animation series to be screened at kindergartens across Europe from mid-May, are getting their final touches at the Toonz Animation India Private Limited (TAIP) in Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram.Helbling Languages, Austria, which provides teachers and students with innovative teaching materials and multi-media kits, has entered into a tie-up with Toonz Animation for developing the educational DVD series ‘Hip Hip Hooray!’. The project comprises 14 episodes, each playing around 2-3 minutes.“The idea is to impart knowledge and at the same time instil in kindergarten kids in Europe an understanding of colours, emotions, numbers and above all some basic rules they have to know even as children. It contains lessons like how to cross a road, how to be patient and about the value of team work,” said Suriya Thomas, producer of the animation series working with TAIP.TAIP has already carved a niche with works like The Adventures of Thenali Raman, Hanuman and Wolverine and the X Men.Prakasan U K, director of the series, said the recent work came after the success of Story of the Stone, an animated series that was entrusted to TAIP in 2008, also by Helbling Languages. The animal cartoon characters, ‘Connie’ the crocodile, ‘Tom’ the turtle, ‘Peter’ the panda and ‘Rosie’ the rabbit teach the basic values to children. The script has been compiled by the renowned authors Herbert Puchta and Gunter Gerngross. He said that this system of teaching could be effectively adopted in different classes in Kerala also. “Work from pre-production to post-production is carried on at the Toonz Studio, Technopark. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-May,” Prakasan said.
