Goa carnival kicks off with Samba beats
It's the carnival of the year - a riot of colour, costumes and music.

Panaji In Goa, the celebrations have begun. The annual Goa Carnival is under way, with Brazilians joining in the festivities, and King Momo inviting you to 'break free'. Goa shows you how fun is done.

King Momo, welcome all you wonderful people, young, and young at heart. No work, all play, dance and fun. There are no spectators here, no defaulters, all are actors.

Make merry, decreed the King of the carnival, and his subjects obeyed him to the last letter.

So it will be for the next five days in Goa. It's the carnival of the year - a riot of colour, costumes and music.

“Haven't seen anything like this. So many people, everyone having a good time, it's brilliant,” says one participant.

And this year is a bit special too. Panaji is getting a taste of merrymaking from the original right from the land of carnivals, Brazil. The samba and Feni make a heady cocktail.

Brazil Consulate General Paulo Antonio Pereira Pinto says, “We wanted a brazillian presence in this Goa carnival. It's our common culture, this celebration.”

Goa Tourism MD Sanjeet Rodriguez says, “We welcome everyone from across the world to come and enjoy this festival. The special attraction this year is definitely the Brazillian participation.”

But it was not just fun and frolic. Listen to this man. It's probably a message to the local politician, who has been changing colours every passing day.

As a day of seemingly endless dance and music drew to a close, the merrymakers were left with just one thought.
