Goa: Russian rape victim gets police cover, support

New Delhi: The Russian tourist who has alleged rape by a John Fernandes, a powerful local politician in Goa, will get police security cover.

The Goa Police will also appeal in the High Court challenging the anticipatory bail that was granted to the accused on Tuesday.

The victim has been saying that she is being threatened by the supporters of Fernandes.

Fernandes was granted bail by a Goa sessions court as police claimed there was no evidence to suggest that the girl was raped.

The court also said that the girl had changed her statement within 3 days and there was no need for custodial interrogation. E

Earlier the police had told the court that the victim showed no physical signs of forced intercourse.

The girl had alleged that Fernandes had spiked her drink and later raped her in his car on December 1.

The victim's lawyer Vikram Verma had also maintained that his client couldn't fight back as she was drugged by the accused.
