MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, on Friday quashed the detention under Goondas Act imposed on four DMK men - ‘Attack’ Pandi, V K Gurusamy, Ochu Balu and Kudamurti T Arumugam. Revoking the orders imposed by Madurai City Police Commissioner P Kannappan on ‘Attack’ Pandi, a bench comprising Justice M Jaichandren and S Nagamuthu said, “The delay caused in the disposal of the representation made on behalf of the detenu (Pandi) has not been properly explained by the respondent. In such circumstances, the detention order dated 27.7.2011 passed by the respondent (commissioner) is set aside.” Similarly, the bench revoked the detention orders imposed on V K Gurusamy, Ochu Balu and Kudamurti Arumugan. ‘Attack’ Pandi’s wife Dhayal had filed the petition, while M S Pandi, the son-in-law of Gurusamy, lodged in Palayamkottai filed the petition challenging the Goondas Act slapped on Gurusamy on August 5, 2011. Arumugam was detained on August 1,  and his wife Vaigai Devi had filed the petition. Ochu Balu was detained on August 17, and his wife Chella Veerammal challenged the order at the High Court Bench, here. The bench also directed the commissioner to set the four members at liberty, unless their detention is required in connection with any other case.
