HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday agreed to implement a majority recommendations of the Mohan Kanda Committee report and concede the demands of farmers of Konaseema who declared a crop holiday this kharif season in protest against lack of support price for their produce. In all, 12 recommendations and 15 demands of farmers of Konaseema were placed before the state government.
The chief minister held a highlevel meeting at his camp office this evening and discussed the Mohan Kanda Committee report. He approved almost all the recommendations of the committee, including modernisation of canals in a phased manner, canal closure from April 15 to May 15 every year subject to availability of water, speedy disbursement of crop insurance and input subsidy, implementation of insurance scheme in East Godavari district and crop diversification. The state government is trying to get bonus on MSP declared by the Central Government in the ensuing procurement season. It will also urge the Centre to synchronise NREGS with agricultural operations. Talking to newsmen later, animal husbandry minister P Viswaroop said the state government would urge the Centre to increase the support price for paddy by `120. It was also decided to modernise irrigation canals at a cost of `25 crore. Seeds and fertilisers would be supplied to farmers of the 12 crop holiday mandals in Konaseema at subsidised prices, he said. Deputy chief minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha, revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy, civil supplies minister D Sridhar Babu, chief secretary SV Prasad were present.
