Govt misleading India on Q: Advani
Opposition parties have accused Congress of deliberately concealing Quattrocchi's detention in Argentina.a

New Delhi: Close on the heels of the Prime Minister making a statement on the Quattrocchi issue, BJP leader L K Advani rejected his statements.

The Prime Minister had stated that his Government had done no wrong and in fact had given the CBI complete autonomy to carry investigations.

Though the Government and the CBI have finally admitted that they knew of Quatrrocchi's detention on February 7, Advani has dismissed their explanations saying that some vital information is missing from the statement and that the Congress is not being completely transparent over the issue.

"This does not at all explain why the information of Quattrocchi's detention, which should have made the CBI jump with joy, was suppressed," Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.

He alleged that the Government in its statement has not made a mention of Quattrocchi's son's visit to India recently.

"This only shows what position Quattrocchi and his family have in this setup," Advani was said to have remarked.

Advani, however, made it clear that there would be no disruption by the NDA in Parliament during the budget presentation on Wednesday.

"There is a red-corner notice against Dawood Ibrahim also. What should be our approach if he is apprehended somewhere abroad? Quattrocchi has been detained in spite of the Government of India wanting him to be off the hook," he said.

He was also quoted as saying that the Congress-led Government failed to oppose Quattrocchi's bail in Argentina.

The BJP has rejected the Government's statement that India has no extradition treaty with Argentina, saying such a pact existed before Independence.
