There are countless real life stories of extraordinary people showing indomitable spirit and turning the tables on adverse circumstances. Priya from Jalpaiguri in West Bengal is one of them. With her father bedridden due to an accident, Priya took charge of the household. She drives a Toto (electric rickshaw) around various shops in Jalpaiguri, selling biscuits to support her family. The immense responsibility of the household rests on her shoulders. Priya is the main support for her family, covering the expenses of her two sisters’ nursing and law college education, as well as her ailing father’s medical treatment. To manage these responsibilities, she sells bakery items from her Toto.
Priya completed her studies at Jorpokhri Abdul Ghani High School and later graduated from Maynaguri College. Although she wanted to continue her studies, the pressing circumstances prevented her from doing so. Suddenly, an accident turned her life upside down, leaving her father bedridden. With two more sisters at home, Priya had to step up as the protector of the family.
Her father used to sell bread and biscuits from his Toto. One evening in February, he met with an accident while selling his goods. This led to extensive medical treatment and several operations. It was only after spending a significant amount of money that his life was saved. Since then, Priya’s father has been bedridden. The family of five, including three sisters and their parents, faced a dire situation. H
The family found themselves in deep trouble. It was then that Priya took over her father’s profession. One sister is studying nursing in Bangalore, while the other is studying law in Cooch Behar. For the past four months, Priya has been running this business. In Priya’s words, “I am managing without any problems!”
