A faction of Gujjar Committee on Wednesday demanded that five communities falling under the official category of Special Backward Class (SBC) should be given five per cent quota within the limit of 50 per cent reservation.
People of the Gujjar, Raika, Rebari, Gardiya, Luhar and Banjara communities should be kept in the SBC category of five per cent quota within the limit of 50 per cent reservation as directed by the High Court, Atar Singh Bhadana, leader of SBC Arakshan Andolan Samiti, told a press conference here.
The Samiti is holding "Jaipur Kooch" since May 27 from Shahpura. Bhadana, leading a 21-member delegation said, his group had met state energy minister Dr Jitendra Singh and agriculture marketing minister Gurjmeet Singh Kunnar yesterday on the issue. "We are optimistic that the state government will do justice to our demand," he said.
Earlier on January 29, the Rajasthan High Court had stayed an order for five per cent reservation for Gujjars since the move could lead to exceeding of quotas for jobs beyond 50 per cent. The Gujjars had been demanding job reservations for long, following which in 2012, the Rajasthan government had accepted a recommendation for five per cent quota for the community in jobs and educational institutions under Special Backward Category.
