CUTTACK: Acting on a writ petition filed by Sreebachcha Chowdhury of Belmundai village in Sambalpur district, seeking compensation for the death of his wife on duty, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice V Gopalagowda and Justice BN Mohapatra issued notice to the State Government. It has directed Additional Government Advocate Bikram Nayak to file counter within two weeks. The petitioner submitted that his wife Amulya Chowdhury, who was working as an anganwadi centre at Belmunda, had died of sun stroke while on duty. On May 9 this year, she had gone to Bamara to attend a meeting where she suffered from the sun stroke and was admitted to VSS Medical, Burla. She died on May 18. Since she had served over 25 years and died while on duty, the Government may be directed to pay compensation along with compassionate appointment to her daughter, the petitioner appealed.
