KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Thursday reopened the appeal filed by Israeli writer Susan Nathan challenging the deportation order issued by the Kozhikode Collector against her.A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P R Ramachandra Menon had earlier reserved its verdict after conclusion of the arguments on the appeal. When it was taken up again, the counsel for the writer said that a case had been registered against her under the Foreigners Act. The counsel submitted that if deported, she would not be able to defend herself, and, therefore, the writer’s presence was essential. The appeal was filed against a single bench order dismissing her plea against the district collector’s order asking her to leave the country in view of the expiry of her visa on September 16, 2010. A Single Bench had earlier asked the police to deport her to Israel and no timeframe was fixed for implementing the order.
