Health literacy campaign to be launched in district
The technical report will be discussed in detail by government representatives, political leaders, NGOs and the public

The district panchayat in association with the Literacy Mission will launch a health literacy campaign with the aim of improving citizens’ health.

“Basic health awareness is the need of the hour. Stress would be laid on leading a healthy lifestyle, in tune with nature and ayurveda,” said district panchayat president Eldhose Kunnappilly. To mark the launch of the programme, ‘karkidaka kanji’ will be distributed at the Priyadarshini Auditorium in Kakkanad to the district panchayat and Literacy Mission staff. Those interested should register for the programme before August 13.

Oushadi is sponsoring the medicine for the programme, and the district panchayat canteen would be offering its support. Awareness programmes and health campaigns have been planned in schools and also among the literacy campaign beneficiaries comprising more than 7,000 people, mostly below 35.

“We aim to bring about a change in the lifestyle to prevent diseases. Awareness classes will be conducted in schools and camps will be organised in association with the Ayurveda Department.

As this is a voluntary activity, the willing parties would be roped in. BPCL has expressed interest in the programme,” said K V Ratheesh, Literacy Mission district coordinator. Awareness classes and medical camps will also be held.

“We have discussed the matter with the district ayurveda authorities,” he said.
