Uttarakhand: The video of a Sikh police officer’s bravery went viral on social media when he intervened and saved a Muslim boy from a mob in Uttarakhand’s Ramnagar.

On May 22, Sub-Inspector Gagandeep Singh was alerted to a possible communal flare-up near Girija Devi temple, which is close to the Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve frequented by tourists.

According to local reports, the Muslim boy had been meeting his Hindu girlfriend near the temple when he was accosted by a mob, which objected to their relationship.

With tension building up, Singh reached the spot and shielded the boy from the mob, which had started getting violent. Unable to get their hands on the boy, the mob started chanting anti-police slogans, but Singh had managed to get the boy to safety by then.

Singh took the couple to the police station where the girl was handed over to her parents.

Twitterati were all praise for Singh’s diligent discharge of his duty.

In fact, even former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju took to Twitter to praise the cop.
