New Delhi: Ahead of crucial Assembly polls, advisor to the Election Commission KJ Rao, the man credited for revising the West Bengal election rolls and violence free Bihar elections, has put in his papers.
Sources told CNN-IBN that Rao resigned because he was not getting time for his family. Sources also said that there was a lobby against Rao in the EC, who thought he was too much in the limelight.
For the 64-year-old Rao, who worked with the Election Commission for decades, declined a fresh offer to continue.
Rao had retired four years ago but continued with the commission working as consultant for two years and then advisor- elections and training- for another two years.
He was a member of the investigation team that probed the malpractices in Amethi, the constituency of late Rajiv Gandhi, in 1989.
"Rao was thankful to the commission for all the assistance in discharging his duties," says Chief Election Commissioner BB Tandon.
He was among the 19 observers appointed by the commission to look into the complaints in the electoral rolls in West Bengal, which is going to polls now.
