Headmistress G Santakumari and teacher A Ramadevi of Saraswsti Memorial Municipal High School for Girls at Bapatla were arrested on Saturday in connection with the suspicious death of a student of the school,Devarampati Esteru Rani (14).
According to sources, the girl, a Class 9 student of the school, committed suicide by hanging herself with a chunni on the third floor of the school on Friday.
Teachers immediately took her to the area hospital where doctors declared her `brought dead’. The school authorities immediately informed her parents of her death.
According to Bapatla circle inspector SK Mahaboob Basha, Esteru Rani had written a love letter to her classmate, Rajakumari, in the name of a boy and sent it through another classmate, Koteswaramma, on Friday afternoon. Rajakumari handed it over to the class teacher, A Ramadevi, who immediately brought the matter to the notice of headmistress G Santhakumari. Santhakumari called Esteru Rani, Rajakumari and Koteswaramma at 3.30 pm on Friday, and warned them over the incident.
She asked Esteru Rani to come to the school the next day along with her parents and warned her that she would not be allowed into the school without parents.
Upset over the letter’s consequences, Esteru Rani went up to the third floor of the school building and committed suicide by hanging herself with chunni, said the inspector.
The headmistress and the class teacher were booked under Section 306 (Abetment of suicide) of IPC.
