Monchengladbach: India lost yet again in the hockey World Cup when they went down 2-3 to Argentina in the 9th to 12th place classification matches on Saturday.
They will now play South Africa on Sunday for the 11th and 12th place playoff match.
India started well scoring in the third minute thanks to a Arjun Halappa goal. However, they could not increase the lead as the woodwork saved Argentina on a couple of occasions.
After finding their footing the Argentines started to attack and the brittle Indian defence could not hold off for long.
Matias Villa scored the equaliser and then Matias Paredes put them ahead.
India equalised through Rajpal Singh but once again they conceded a goal in the last 10 minutes with Villa getting his second of the match. All the three goals that Argentina scored came off penalty corners.
India have not won even one match in the tournament.
They have finished last in the World Cup earlier and that was in the 1986 edition held in London. Mohammad Shahid was the captain of the team then.
In the match against Argentina there was nothing to lose but an opportunity to salvage some pride.
However, the morale was down after a 6-1 hammering against Netherlands.
