Homestay attack: Womens panel pulls up Mangalore police

The State Women’s Commission has castigated Mangalore district police for failing to contain self-proclaimed moral police in its report on the recent Mangalore homestay attack case.

Chairperson of the commission Manjula, who had visited Mangalore recently, would submit her report to Home Minister R Ashok on Wednesday. In the report, the commission has highlighted police inaction besides seeking a thorough inquiry into the incident, Manjula told reporters here on Tuesday.

Manjula opined that the government should also look into other aspects of the incident instead of only focusing on the attack. “There are reports of drug mafia flourishing in the coastal district and innocent girls being misled by some vested interests. The government should take serious note of it,” she added.
