A farmer has reportedly taken an innovative approach that allows him to earn up to Rs 50,000 with an investment of just Rs 5,000. This farmer is practising crop diversification, growing multiple crops on his land. Many farmers tend to stick to a single crop, which often leads to significant losses, especially during droughts. However, this farmer has surprised everyone by earning a substantial profit.
The name of the farmer is SMD Sharif. He is a resident of the Nandyala district, Andhra Pradesh. On his 30 acres of land, he harvests gourds and other crops together. In an interview with Local 18, the farmer mentioned that growing one crop was not giving him much profit, so he started to practice crop diversification. He said that during the period of growing Kandi which is also known as Toor dal, he plants green pumpkin in the middle of the saplings of Toor dal. In this way, he earns a substantial amount every year. Sharif expressed his satisfaction with growing two crops simultaneously.
According to reports, green pumpkin takes a very limited time to grow. It often yields good prices in the market. Although recent heavy rains have slightly impacted the crop, the earnings are still good. The farmer mentioned that if the weather had been favourable. Then, he would have earned more than his expectations. Growing green pumpkins does not require much investment and can be easily grown.
For one acre of green pumpkin, a farmer only needs to invest Rs 5,000. With favourable conditions, the farmers can earn up to Rs 50,000. It was reported that some farmers even earn Rs 80,000 per acre with favourable weather conditions. Sharif decided to avoid losses by practising crop diversification. The farmer said, “Practicing such an innovative style of farming has helped me to gain a substantial profit. I would like to advise all the farmers to try out other crops simultaneously to earn good profit.”
