HYDERABAD: Valuable electronics and decorative materials were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in a commercial complex - Harmony - in Begumpet here on Sunday. However, no casualties have been reported. Fire service officials suspect that the fire took place due to short circuit from a transformer that was placed in front of the complex. A flexi-made banner tied to the electrical transformer caught fire after the blast and spread to the first-floor of the three-storeyed Harmony building. Flames spread rapidly to the Shah Decors' showroom on the first-floor and Fastrack and Sony showrooms in other floors resulting in major property loss, officials said. After receiving a call around 9.30 a.m., a fire tender stationed at the chief minister’s camp office was rushed to the spot. Even as fire-fighting operation was on, seven other fire tenders from Secunderabad, Moula Ali, Malkajgiri, Filmnagar and Gowliguda were pressed into service along with a snorkel. Karimuddin, city district fire service officer, said fire service staff fought for almost seven hours to douse the flames. The situation came under their control by 2.30 p.m. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Boar d (HMWS&SB) has supplied water through 20 tankers. Meanwhile, the building owner Rajesh Shah who came to the spot after learning about the incident through TV channels, alleged that the fire tenders failed to reach the spot on time. He said there were five stores in the complex and all of them were gutted. Traffic, however, came to a halt for couple of hours.
