Jyoti Randhawa came from behind to win the Bilt Open in 2008.

New Delhi: Just when his critics were ready to write him off after a disappointing 2008 season, Jyoti Randhawa came from behind to win the Bilt Open at the end of the year. As he prepares for a busy 2009 season, he shared his plans, hopes and aspirations with CNN-IBN's Himanshu Singhal

“It was a great season starting and I had a lot of top 10s under my belt and I got a bit complacent after that. I had achieved a lot of my goal in the beginning of the year and I didn't have to work that hard in the end. I think that's the fault I made. I have learnt form that. I had a mediocre mid season and not that great in the end. All in all I would say it was average and hopefully I have learnt from my past mistakes and I am going to improve on them next year,” said Jyoti Randhawa.

Himanshu Singhal: Jyoti you have dropped to 147 in the ranking. Quite a drastic fall for someone like you with high standards.

Jyoti Randhawa: I think partly I would agree with that because I didn't manage myself well travelling. Going to America, Europe, India and which ever place you decide to play or stay, you got to be there for a few weeks so that you can adjust and adapt. I think globe trotting is what got to me and I got exhausted. Then the pressure is there to play and try and win the tournament. That doesn't help much. I have learnt from that and hopefully I will better my schedule this year and be able to perform so that I am in a comfort zone and I can do what I need to do.

Himanshu Singhal: Is there any specific area of your game that you need to work on?

Jyoti Randhawa: I think my driving has not been that great and my second shot and my approach shot to green have not been close or good enough to the standards that we are playing. I definitely need to work on those. Of course the key area where I didn't score well was my putting. I have been a good putter and it's that if you are not hitting close that often then your putting starts to slacken and that's what has happened.

Himanshu Singhal: You wife is once again pursuing Bollywood. What really goes in your mind when you see her on screen?

Jyoti Randhawa: I think it is great. She looks gorgeous and a very beautiful lady. I am very happy and am very honoured to be part of her life. It is great to be with someone who's that good. I think she is a great actor and right now we both are trying to improve and propel our career towards what we would like to be. It is clear that we draw our strengths from each other and try and improve on each other weaknesses. It is great to be around someone who has a desire to do something in life. The energy is very good.

Himanshu Singhal: Apart from being a husband do you also like to be a critic for her?

Jyoti Randhawa:Ya! According to her I am her biggest critic. I am the one who eventually tell her and I am the one who sees her day in and day out in life. I would say that I would definitely like to add to her improvement whether she takes it or not. I think she has better professionals to help her in what she is trying to do. But I definitely say my bit. She knows she is my wife and I can say that. The best part is I don't have to honeycoat it. She might not do a great job and people might say she has done a great job. I just say it wasn't good. So she likes that straight forward answer and tries to improve.

Himanshu Singhal: What's going to be you main target for 2009?

Jyoti Randhawa: I think definitely play around the European tour and as I said I need to win a tournament there. I need to work on my physical fitness also. You need to be fit and I am also involved in a few things. I need to do those right and just keep working at it and what i need to do is consistently work at golf mentally and physically which I didn't do middle last year. I have learnt that and I am not going to make that same mistake again.

What's your reaction?
