IIMs to hike fees, swell student intake
Directors of all IIMs will meet in mid-January to finalise the quantum of fee hike.

New Delhi: If you are planning to study at any of the Indian Institutes of Management, save more money. The IIMs are planning an increase in fees for the academic year starting July 2006.

The fee hike is not yet finalised, but sources say it could be around 10 to 16 per cent.

Students at IIM Bangalore are now paying one and a half lakh rupees per annum.

After the hike, they might have to pay an additional Rs 25,000.

"There is a proposal but we are yet to decide. All of us (IIMs) will sit together and decide soon," Prakash G Apte, Director, IIM Bangalore said.

Directors of all IIMs will meet in mid-January to finalise the quantum of fee hike.

IIMA is planning to hike fees for its one-year post-graduate programme in management for executives for the year 2007 and double the number of students admitted in each batch, IIMA Director Bakul Dholakia said.

IIMB has also decided to increase student intake for its courses from the academic year 2005-06. It has increased the number of students in the Post Graduate Programme in management from 180 to 240 from the academic year 2005-06, Apte said.

To accommodate the students, a new 160-room hostel block is being constructed. The first phase of construction comprising 60 rooms is nearing completion and the remaining will be ready by the end of this year, Apte added.
