A nursery owner has planted about 140 varieties of foreign mangoes in Habra city of the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. At present, some of the mongo trees have sprouted buds while others have ripened exotic mangoes of different sizes and colours. The owner of the nursery claims that the taste of each mango is unique and hard to find in West Bengal. The nursery is owned by Mofizul Rahman. A large number of people flock to his nursery to watch the exotic variety of the mangoes.
Currently, his nursery has 140 species of tropical mangoes from China, Japan, Thailand, Israel and the US. He claims that foreign mangoes grow three to four times a year. Even though the climate of Bengal is not similar to the climate abroad, the crops are bearing fruit in the nursery of Mofizul Rahman. Generally, Himsagar, Golap Khas and Langra mangoes are produced once in two years.
“If it is produced one year, the same yield is not seen in the trees the next year,” said the nursery owner. However, the mangoes of foreign species are produced three to four times a year. He said that 65 different species of mango trees have ripened till now. Nursery owner Mofizul wants to build this foreign mango orchard on 20 to 30 bighas of land if he gets any government help or loan. His nursery now has various varieties of mangoes including Miyazaki, Cu Jai, Katimon, Dokmai, Chiangmai, Palmer, Alphonso and others.
It is known that this foreign variety of mango is sweet, tasty and juicy. Mango flour is also thin. Depending on the variety, the colour of the top and the inside of the raw mango is also different. You can plant the seedlings of this foreign mango tree in your home if desired.
Aware of the initiative of the nursery owner, the local administration and the agriculture department have expressed their interest in the cultivation of mangoes. Habra One BDO Subir Kumar Dandapat said that the cultivation of such trees will encourage other farmers.
