In Tamil Nadu’s Namakkal District, Govt Officials Spotted Carrying Voting Machines On Their Heads
The machines were dispatched to polling booths across the district yesterday.

The preparations are in full force as the Lok-Sabha elections kickstart from today. Malai Grama in the Namakkal district (Tamil Nadu) witnessed the preparations for the polls yesterday. The officials were seen carrying the Voting machines on their heads. The Namakkal district is a hilly area approximately 1100 metres above sea level. The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), control units, and Voter-Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines were dispatched to polling booths across the district yesterday. According to reports, the EVMs were transported on foot for a distance of around seven kilometres due to the lack of proper roads. It is known that Government officials, police personnel and local people have been transporting the voting machines on foot for the past 50 years.

Around 1628 polling booths across six constituencies were established in the district, out of which around 174 polling booths were identified as sensitive. The Election Commission was seen taking all necessary steps to ensure a free and safe election. With the aim to ensure that, around 1060 CCTVs were installed and a total number of 2786 security officials, including police officers and central forces were deployed. Around 14.52 lakh people will cast their vote today in the Namakkal district, which includes 7.08 lakh males, 7.44 lakh females, and 158 third-gender voters.

Though special efforts were made to transport the election essentials at Bodhamalai in the Rasipuram assembly constituency of Namakkal district, officials were seen carrying the EVMs, VVPATs, and control units on their heads as they trek through hills for a distance of around seven kilometres. Around 1142 voters residing in Keezhur, Melur, and Kodamalai are set to cast their votes in this booth.

The Lok-sabha elections that started on Friday are set to be the largest phase-wise election that was ever held in India. Around 96.88 crore people are set to cast their votes making it the largest election in the world. The election will take place in seven phases over the timespan of six weeks.
