India, Saudi Arabia ink key accords
After talks Manmohan Singh and King Abdullah signed four accords, including one on combatting terrorism.

New Delhi: King Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz of Saudi Arabia arrived in Delhi on Tuesday on a three day visit.

On Wednesday, after talks in New Delhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and King Abdullah signed four accords, including one on combatting terrorism.

The Memorandum of Understanding on combatting crime covering terrorism was signed by Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faizal bin Abdul Aziz al Saud.

The Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Saudi Finance Minister Ibraheem Bin Abdul Aziz al Assaf also signed an agreement on avoidance of double taxation, investment promotion and protection agreement and cooperation agreement in the field of youth and sports.

This is expected to boost two-way trade from the current $ three billion to $ seven billion by 2007.

Another cooperation agreement in the field of youth and sports was inked by the Indian Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Oscar Fernandes and Saudi Culture and Information Minister Iyad bin Ameen Madani.

Saudi Arabia has also shown interest in India's refining sector while India, with an eye on its long term energy security, is keen on firming up arrangements in oil and gas with Saudi Arabia.

King Abdullah's visit is the first by a Saudi King to India since 1955 when the late King Saud came on a visit.

King Abdullah will be the chief guest at the Republic Day parade.
