Intense Rainfall Inundates Parts Of Delhi-NCR, IMD Issues Yellow Alert Till July 27
The weather agency has predicted a moderate to intense spell of showers over Delhi-NCR on Friday due to the passing of convective cloud mass over the region.

A fresh spell of heavy showers lashed parts of national capital Delhi and its adjoining areas, including Noida, Ghaziabad on Friday morning, causing waterlogging and vehicular traffic across the National Capital Region (NCR).

As per the visuals shared by the news agency ANI, several roads, including Shanti Path, Naouroji Nagar, Bhikaji Cama Place, Moti Bagh Ring Road, were seen facing heavy traffic snarls due to waterlogging amid heavy rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “yellow” alert for the metropolitan till Saturday amid a forecast that rainfall is likely to continue in Delhi till July 28.

The weather agency has predicted a moderate to intense spell of showers over Delhi-NCR on Friday due to the passing of convective cloud mass over the region.

“A cloud mass is passing through Delhi. Movement is slow, spell of moderate to intense spell may persist during next 2 hours,” IMD said on X.

It further forecast light to moderate rainfall across several states for today.

“Recent satellite imagery indicates convective clouds with the possibility of: Light to moderate rainfall at many places (with occasionally intense spells) accompanied with isolated thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds very likely over South Haryana, Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Northwest Punjab, East Madhya Pradesh, south Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Telengana, Rayalaseema, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and east Assam during next 3 hours,” IMD said.

The weather department has also cautioned about the potential impact across the national capital due to intense rainfall. It further advised the citizens to check for traffic congestion before leaving and to follow traffic advisories issued by the departments.

“Impact expected over Delhi-NCR due to rain:

➢ Localized Flooding of roads, water logging in low lying areas and closure of underpasses

➢ Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall.

➢ Disruption of traffic due to water logging in roads leading to increased travel time.

Action Suggested

➢ Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination.

➢ Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard.

➢ Avoid going to areas that face the water logging problems often.

➢ Avoid staying in vulnerable structure.”

On Thursday, the national capital and NCR region witnessed intense showers which caused waterlogging and traffic snarls in many areas.

From 8:30 am on Thursday to 6:30am on Friday, Delhi University recorded a rainfall of 89.5 mm. IGNOU and Pitampura region recorded a rainfall of 34.5mm and 8.5mm, respectively. Meanwhile, at 8.30am on Thursday, Delhi’s main weather station Safdarjung recorded a rainfall of 19.1 mm in a three-hour period. The Lodhi Road and Pusa weather stations recorded a rainfall of 25.7mm and 10mm, respectively during the same period. The humidity level stood at 67% recorded at 5.30 pm, according to the IMD.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the “moderate” category with a reading of 109 at 4 pm, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
