A roadside bomb killed eight British and American soldiers in an ambush on the outskirts of Basra.

In another incident, ten Iraqi Army soldiers were gunned down near Mosul.

Six British soldiers have been killed in Iraq this week, making it one of the deadliest for British forces to date.

Following Thursday's attacks, British Prime Minister Tony Blair reiterated that the Iranian regime has been supporting terrorism in Iraq.

His comments came a day after the safe return of the 15 British service personnel from captivity in Iran.
