New Delhi: The well edited promos of Anil Kapoor's TV show '24' suggest that it's going to be a never-seen-before experience for the Indian audience. There have been directors like Anurag Kashyap, Ketan Mehta and Imtiaz Ali in the past who have diverted from the usual line of storytelling on TV, but this is the first time when a show is getting so much back up from the channel. This hints towards the confidence the makers have in '24' but will it really be a game changer for Indian TV?
'24' features Anil Kapoor in the lead role of Jai Singh Rathod, the Indian counterpart of Jack Bauer, a man with an Army background. Abhinay Deo, the director of films such as 'Game' and 'Delhi Belly', is the man behind the megaphone. He told to IANS in an interview, "24 will change the look of TV for sure. We have shot it like a feature film. It is more like cinema on television."
One thing that is likely to work in favour of '24' is the presence of established film and TV faces. Further, most of these actors have the reputation of being good actors rather than being stars. From Shabana Azmi to Anupam Kher, several actors are going to be seen in the show which has a man torn between his family and his country at the helm of affairs. Mandira Bedi and Tisca Chopra will also share the spotlight.
Kiefer Sutherland played the central role in the original American TV series but Anil Kapoor was also a part of the show, so he must have had a good idea of the production values that are needed to be put in a show to make it a thrilling experience.
'24' has got the prime time slot after the successful reality show 'Bigg Boss', so it is expected to open with relatively high TRP, but the ultimate authority rests with the audience.
'24' will be aired on Colors TV, a product of Network 18, which also owns IBNLive.
